About Us
Hi, I think you so much for visiting. My name is Brian and I'm a huge Coleman Popup camper fan.
I personally own a 1998 Coleman Westlake and we go camping several times per year. Ideally we would like to get out once per month, but the best we can do is around every 6 weeks. We primarily camp around the North Texas area. I hope you enjoy this site and if you have any Coleman popup camper questions, please feel free to ask. |
High Side Wall Coleman Popup Campers
Coleman popup campers have traditionally been known as industry leaders when it comes to family style quality camping products. Coleman has been producing popup campers for decades and they have created a brand that can not be beat. One such model line is the Highlander series featuring a high side wall constructed box. So, what is a high side wall? A high side wall popup is one that the walls of the box are measurably taller than standard boxes. This height allows for permanent kitchen and storage fixtures that do not have to be moved while the camper is in motion or storage. Traditional popup campers force you to raise and lower the kitchenette/sink. With a high sidewall, those features are permanently affixed. What's the benefit? Honestly, there are some benefits and some drawbacks. The clear benefit is less wear and tear. When you are lifting the unit up and down, the plumbing is also moving. This may not seem like a big deal, but after years of doing it those connections can become loosened which will cause a water supply or drain leak. this can destroy the camper. Another benefit is additional storage for taller items. With the gain in height you also gain more usable space to store items during your trip. The downside to a high wall is the weight. The high side wall models are the largest that Coleman offers and also the heaviest. They come in at around 4,000 to 4,600 lbs GVWR. That is going to be beyond the GVWR of most minivans and light trucks. For example my 2004 V-8 Suburban can tow either model without a problem. However, my 2007 Hummer H3 could not safely tow either Highlander model. The Highlander Series comes in two models. The Niagara and Avalon are spacious luxury trailers that are feature packed with the comforts of home. Both feature king size pullouts with solid walled bathroom. They even feature a flushable toilet, which is a huge bonus if you ask me. The main difference between the two is the Avalon is larger with more seating while the Niagara has less seating, but a little more storage. Either way, they are the Cadillac of all popup campers and can be picked up between $15k-$25k depending on your location and preference of new vs. used. |
